Description

“Shunka Shūtō” (春夏秋冬) refers to the four seasons in Japanese: spring, summer, autumn (fall), and winter. The term literally translates to “spring, summer, autumn, winter” and represents the cyclical nature of the year.

春 (Shun) – Spring:

This season is characterized by blooming flowers, warmer temperatures, and new beginnings. In Japan, cherry blossoms (sakura) are a famous symbol of spring.

夏 (Ka) – Summer:

Summer is known for its hot and humid weather. It’s a time for festivals (matsuri), fireworks, and enjoying outdoor activities.

秋 (Shū) – Autumn/Fall:

Autumn brings cooler temperatures and vibrant foliage as the leaves change color. It is often associated with harvests and enjoying seasonal foods.

冬 (Tō) – Winter:

Winter is marked by cold weather, snow in many regions, and various traditions such as New Year’s celebrations. Warm dishes and hot springs are enjoyed during this season.

“Shunka Shūtō” reflects not only the passage of time but also the beauty and transience of nature, which is an important theme in Japanese culture. The phrase can also symbolize the changing phases of life.
